who is paul weller???

forgive me because i may just be completely uneducated in the matter but...
who the h-e-double-hockey-sticks is Paul Weller? and why does he get megastar second billing at the toronto virgin festival?

i attended the EVENT this past weekend and i must say it was a good time. a good time indeed. for all of you who weren't there - you SO should have. i will have pictures and more junk tomorrow when i'm not losing my mind and i remember to bring my camera in.

back to paul weller - did you know he's often referred to as the modfather? nope, neither did i! but apparently he's more popular than i give him credit for... people were losing their shit for this guy! old(er) people mind you... but still! you'd think if he was popular enough to lose one's shit over, most people would have heard of him. i've never even heard of his pre solo career bands - The Jam and The Style Council.

so he's a english singer/songwriter who is a principal figure of the 1970s mod revival... doesn't mean much to me but hey, i might just be too young for any of this. but here's the important part of why i might not know who he is: "He has remained essentially a national rather than an international star, possibly because much of his songwriting is rooted in British culture."

and why does he get to play back-to-back with oasis? maybe because he was a guest guitarist and did backing vocals on oasis' 'champagne supernova' and he even suggested one of oasis' longtime drummers alan white to noel! we'll call it the oasis connection.

so now we know who paul weller is... that still doesn't mean i didn't have a little nap while he was performing...
but speaking of anonymity...
