toronto virgin festival - day 1

what: 2008 virgin music festival
when: saturday september 6
where: toronto island
why: because music is awesome...

behold! the line for the line for the ferry... the actual line for the ferry was also long. but bonus, they didn't search any bags so that saved time! and also allowed us to bring our umbrellas, leafy green vegetables and unauthorized copies of richard branson's autobiography to the island with us!
woot! it's against me! playing a killer set... unfortunately, we didn't get to see the whole thing because we stayed too long watching the limp set the fratellis played at one of the other stages. also, we, being completely giddy with excitement and hence not thinking clearly, could not navigate to the main stage in a timely fashion.
the bloc party - such aggressive drumming for some mellow-ish music. if i were in charge, i would have set it up with the bloc party before against me! still, BP still played a good set and that's something coming from me who is skeptical of music i don't know.
FOO FIGHTERS!!! consummate showmen... also so charismatic. they did not disappoint... we heard the last song in their set on the way to the ferry. they totally disregarded the island curfew of 11. i love dave grohl... if he were god, i would totally be religious.
during the performances on the main stage, motorola (one of the sponsors... they were giving away free bags!) had this thing going where you could send text messages to them and they'd scroll along the bottom of the giant screens showing the action. i managed to this picture that i think is very apt. very apt indeed.
it's a good thing we didn't stay until the very end of the foo fighters' set... look at the line for the ferry! again! music festival with thousands of attendees being held on an island with VERY limited access? yeah, not the best idea in the world.
