mixed feeling of the day

is the statement "i want to grow my fuel rather than dig for it" socially responsible?

interest and research on crop-based fuel generation is driving the cost of basic food staples (corn, rice) higher and higher pushing the necessities of life out of the reach of 3rd world countries and ever "at risk" people in 1st world countries.

sure, oil-based fuels are a leading cause of pollution... and oil is not a sustainable resource but are crop fuels actually sustainable? we barely have enough farmable land to feed the currnet population and everyday acres of forest are demolished to make room for more... forests that could be helping (albeit probably marginally) to abate the pollution produced by oil-based fuels.

simply stated, we don't have enough space to grow gas and food at the same time.
